12 Ground Turkey Casserole Recipes That Keep Dinner Low Stress
These ground turkey casserole recipes work because ground turkey cooks quickly, stays tender in a sauce, and takes on any seasoning you give it. Rice, noodles, beans, or potatoes turn one skillet of browned meat into a full meal with plenty of texture and enough sauce to keep everything from drying out. The versions below push that same foundation in genuinely different directions.

Classic Cheesy Ground Turkey and Rice Casserole
This is the one I keep going back to for a quiet weeknight. The rice cooks right in the sauce, so you get a creamy, cheesy center with slightly crisp edges, and the broccoli makes it feel like a full meal.

Ingredients (makes 6 servings)
- Ground turkey: 450 g (1 lb)
- White onion, diced: 1 medium (about 1 cup)
- Garlic cloves, minced: 3
- Long-grain white rice, uncooked: 200 g (1 cup)
- Broccoli florets, cut small: 300 g (4 cups)
- Low-sodium chicken stock: 480 ml (2 cups)
- Condensed cream of mushroom soup: 300 g (1 can, 10.5 oz)
- Shredded cheddar cheese: 180 g (2 cups)
- Salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika: 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp smoked paprika
- Vegetable oil: 1 tbsp
Instructions
Step 1: Heat your oven to 375F (190C). Warm the 1 tbsp oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, then cook the 450 g (1 lb) ground turkey and diced onion for about 6 minutes, breaking the meat up as it browns. You know it is ready when no pink remains and the onion looks soft.
Step 2: Stir in the 3 minced garlic cloves, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, and 1 tsp smoked paprika, and let them bloom for 30 seconds. Add the 200 g (1 cup) uncooked rice, 480 ml (2 cups) chicken stock, 300 g cream of mushroom soup, and 300 g (4 cups) broccoli florets. Bring everything to a gentle simmer while you scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
Step 3: Cover the skillet with a lid or foil and bake for 35 minutes, until the rice has absorbed most of the liquid and the broccoli is tender. You will see the sauce thicken and the rice puff up, and the edges will look just a little browned.
Step 4: Uncover and scatter the 180 g (2 cups) shredded cheddar over the top. Return the pan to the oven for 5 minutes, just long enough for the cheese to melt into a glossy layer. You can serve it straight from the skillet while it is still bubbling.
Loaded Ground Turkey Taco Casserole
This one has the crunch of tortilla chips, the heat of warm spices, and a layer of melty cheese. It is a little louder than the classic version, and that is exactly why you make it on a Friday night.

Ingredients (makes 6 servings)
- Ground turkey: 450 g (1 lb)
- Yellow onion, chopped: 1 medium (about 1 cup)
- Garlic cloves, minced: 2
- Taco seasoning: 2 tbsp
- Black beans, drained and rinsed: 400 g (1 can)
- Diced tomatoes with green chiles: 300 g (1 can)
- Frozen corn kernels: 150 g (1 cup)
- Tortilla chips, lightly crushed: 170 g (6 cups)
- Shredded Monterey Jack cheese: 180 g (2 cups)
- Shredded lettuce, diced tomato, sliced avocado, and sour cream, for serving: 100 g lettuce (2 cups), 1 tomato, 1 avocado, 80 g (1/3 cup) sour cream
Instructions
Step 1: Heat your oven to 350F (175C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the 450 g (1 lb) ground turkey and chopped onion for about 7 minutes, breaking up the meat until it is browned and the onion is soft. Drain any liquid from the pan before you move on.
Step 2: Stir the 2 minced garlic cloves and 2 tbsp taco seasoning into the skillet and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Add the 400 g (1 can) drained black beans, 300 g (1 can) diced tomatoes with green chiles, and 150 g (1 cup) frozen corn. Let the mixture bubble for 4 minutes so the tomatoes reduce and the corn thaws.
Step 3: Spread half of the 170 g (6 cups) crushed tortilla chips in the prepared dish. Spoon the turkey mixture over the chips, then top with the remaining chips and the 180 g (2 cups) shredded Monterey Jack cheese. You want enough chips on top to give the finished casserole a crispy bite.
Step 4: Bake for 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the edges are bubbling. Pull the dish out and let it sit for 3 minutes so the chips soak up some of the sauce but keep their crunch. You can pile on the lettuce, tomato, avocado, and sour cream right before serving.
Ground Turkey and Sweet Potato Enchilada Casserole
Sweet potatoes give this one a soft, slightly sweet base that holds up against the red enchilada sauce. I like it with a little lime squeezed over the top, which cuts the richness without adding extra work.

Ingredients (makes 5 servings)
- Ground turkey: 450 g (1 lb)
- Sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1 cm cubes: 500 g (2 medium)
- Red onion, diced: 1 medium
- Garlic cloves, minced: 2
- Vegetable oil: 1 tbsp
- Enchilada sauce: 450 g (2 cups)
- Corn tortillas, cut into quarters: 8 small
- Shredded cheddar or pepper Jack cheese: 160 g (1 2/3 cups)
- Salt and black pepper: 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper
- Cilantro leaves and lime wedges, for serving: 1/4 cup cilantro, 1 lime cut into wedges
Instructions
Step 1: Heat your oven to 400F (200C). Warm the 1 tbsp oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, then cook the 500 g (2 medium) sweet potato cubes for 8 minutes, stirring once halfway, until the edges turn brown and you can slide a fork in easily.
Step 2: Add the 450 g (1 lb) ground turkey and the diced red onion to the skillet, season with the 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp black pepper, and cook for 6 minutes, breaking up the meat. You will see the turkey lose its pink color and the onion go soft. Stir in the 2 minced garlic cloves and cook 1 minute more.
Step 3: Pour in the 450 g (2 cups) enchilada sauce and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom. Tear the 8 corn tortillas into quarters and fold them into the skillet so they soak up some of the sauce. Let everything simmer for 3 minutes, then smooth the top.
Step 4: Scatter the 160 g (1 2/3 cups) shredded cheese over the surface and slide the skillet into the oven. Bake for 18 minutes, until the cheese bubbles and the sauce thickens around the tortillas. You can rest it for 5 minutes, then serve hot with the cilantro and lime wedges.
Creamy Ground Turkey and Mushroom Noodle Casserole
This version leans on mushrooms and cream cheese for a sauce that coats every piece of noodle. It is the one you reach for when you want something soft, earthy, and a little more grown-up than the usual weeknight bake.

Ingredients (makes 6 servings)
- Ground turkey: 450 g (1 lb)
- Cremini mushrooms, sliced: 300 g (4 cups)
- Yellow onion, finely chopped: 1 medium
- Garlic cloves, minced: 3
- Egg noodles: 200 g (8 oz)
- Low-sodium chicken stock: 240 ml (1 cup)
- Cream cheese, softened: 120 g (4 oz)
- Panko breadcrumbs: 60 g (1/2 cup)
- Butter, melted: 2 tbsp
- Salt, black pepper, and dried thyme: 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp dried thyme
Instructions
Step 1: Heat your oven to 375F (190C) and bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the 200 g (8 oz) egg noodles for 2 minutes less than the package says, then drain and set them aside. You want them slightly underdone because they will finish in the sauce.
Step 2: Melt half of the 2 tbsp butter in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, then cook the 300 g (4 cups) sliced mushrooms and chopped onion for 7 minutes. You will see the mushrooms give off their liquid and start to brown, which is where all the flavor comes from.
Step 3: Add the 450 g (1 lb) ground turkey, 3 minced garlic cloves, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, and 1 tsp dried thyme. Cook for 6 minutes, breaking up the meat, until you see no pink remains. Stir in the 120 g (4 oz) cream cheese and 240 ml (1 cup) chicken stock, and let it bubble until smooth.
Step 4: Fold the drained noodles into the sauce until you cannot see any dry patches. Scatter the 60 g (1/2 cup) panko over the top and drizzle with the remaining 1 tbsp melted butter. Bake for 15 minutes, until the top turns deep golden and the edges bubble.
Step 5: Rest the casserole for 5 minutes before you scoop it into bowls. The sauce will thicken slightly as it sits, and you get a nice contrast between the creamy noodles and the crisp topping.
Ground Turkey Shepherd’s Pie Casserole
This is the casserole that feeds a full table and still feels like comfort food. The turkey and vegetable base stays savory under a thick layer of buttery mashed potatoes, and the cheddar on top gets those browned spots everyone fights over.

Ingredients (makes 6 servings)
- Ground turkey: 450 g (1 lb)
- Onion, carrots, and celery, diced: 1 onion, 2 carrots, 2 stalks
- Frozen peas: 150 g (1 cup)
- Tomato paste: 3 tbsp
- Low-sodium chicken stock: 240 ml (1 cup)
- Dried thyme, dried rosemary, salt, and black pepper: 1 tsp, 1/2 tsp, 1 tsp, 1/4 tsp
- Russet potatoes, peeled and cubed: 900 g (2 lb)
- Butter: 60 g (4 tbsp)
- Milk: 120 ml (1/2 cup)
- Shredded cheddar cheese: 80 g (1/2 cup)
Instructions
Step 1: Heat your oven to 400F (200C). Put the 900 g (2 lb) cubed potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water by an inch, and bring to a boil. Cook for 12 minutes, until a fork slides in easily, then drain and mash them with the 60 g (4 tbsp) butter and 120 ml (1/2 cup) milk. You want the mash thick enough to spread over the filling.
Step 2: Warm a large nonstick oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, then cook the 450 g (1 lb) ground turkey and the diced onion, carrots, and celery for 8 minutes. Season with 1 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp dried thyme, and 1/2 tsp dried rosemary as you break up the meat, and stop when you see no pink and the vegetables have softened.
Step 3: Stir the 3 tbsp tomato paste and 240 ml (1 cup) chicken stock into the skillet, scraping up any browned bits. Add the 150 g (1 cup) frozen peas and let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes, until it thickens into a glossy gravy. Taste and adjust the seasoning before you assemble.
Step 4: Spoon the turkey filling into a 9×13-inch baking dish and spread it into an even layer. Top with the mashed potatoes, then use your spoon to make soft swirls across the surface. You are creating little ridges that will brown in the oven.
Step 5: Scatter the 80 g (1/2 cup) shredded cheddar over the potatoes and bake for 20 minutes, until the top is golden and the filling bubbles around the edges. Rest it for 5 minutes before you scoop out big spoonfuls.
Buffalo Ground Turkey Quinoa Casserole
The buffalo sauce brings real heat, while the quinoa and Greek yogurt keep it from turning into a heavy pub grub. This is the one I make when I want the flavor of wings without the mess.

Ingredients (makes 5 servings)
- Ground turkey: 450 g (1 lb)
- Quinoa, rinsed: 170 g (1 cup)
- Celery stalks and yellow onion, chopped: 2 stalks and 1 medium
- Garlic cloves, minced: 2
- Buffalo hot sauce: 120 ml (1/2 cup)
- Low-sodium chicken stock: 360 ml (1 1/2 cups)
- Plain Greek yogurt: 120 g (1/2 cup)
- Cream cheese, softened: 60 g (2 oz)
- Shredded cheddar cheese: 120 g (1 1/3 cups)
- Crumbled blue cheese: 80 g (1/2 cup)
Instructions
Step 1: Heat your oven to 375F (190C). Warm a large nonstick oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, then cook the 450 g (1 lb) ground turkey with the chopped celery, onion, and 2 minced garlic cloves for 7 minutes. You will know it is ready when the turkey is browned and the vegetables have softened.
Step 2: Pour in the 170 g (1 cup) rinsed quinoa, 360 ml (1 1/2 cups) chicken stock, and 120 ml (1/2 cup) buffalo hot sauce. Stir everything together, bring it to a steady simmer, and cook for 12 minutes uncovered, stirring once halfway. You will see the quinoa absorb most of the liquid and fluff up.
Step 3: Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the 120 g (1/2 cup) Greek yogurt and 60 g (2 oz) cream cheese until the sauce turns pale orange and smooth. You want to do this off the heat so the yogurt does not split.
Step 4: Scatter the 120 g (1 1/3 cups) shredded cheddar and 80 g (1/2 cup) crumbled blue cheese over the top. Bake for 15 minutes, until the cheese melts and the edges get a little dark. You can broil for 1 minute at the end if you like a blistered top.
Step 5: Rest the casserole for 5 minutes, then serve it in shallow bowls. Scoop from the bottom so you get some quinoa, turkey, and cheese in every bite.
Ground Turkey Cabbage Roll Skillet Casserole
This one skips the rolling and gives you all the sweet, soft cabbage and tomato flavor in half the time. It is low on carbs and still feels hearty, which makes it a good weeknight reset.

Ingredients (makes 4 servings)
- Ground turkey: 450 g (1 lb)
- Green cabbage, chopped: 1 small head (about 700 g / 1.5 lb)
- Yellow onion, diced: 1 medium
- Garlic cloves, minced: 3
- Cauliflower rice: 300 g (3 cups)
- Diced tomatoes: 400 g (1 can)
- Tomato sauce: 240 ml (1 cup)
- Mozzarella cheese, shredded: 120 g (1 1/3 cups)
- Parmesan cheese, grated: 40 g (1/3 cup)
- Dried oregano, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper: 1 tsp, 1 tsp, 1/2 tsp, 1/4 tsp
Instructions
Step 1: Heat your oven to 375F (190C). Warm a large nonstick oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat and cook the 450 g (1 lb) ground turkey with the diced onion for 7 minutes, breaking the meat up. You want the turkey browned and the onion soft before you add the cabbage.
Step 2: Add the 700 g chopped cabbage and the 3 minced garlic cloves to the skillet, season with 1 tsp oregano, 1 tsp smoked paprika, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp black pepper, and cook for 6 minutes. The cabbage will wilt and release its liquid, so you get a slightly sweet smell as it caramelizes.
Step 3: Stir in the 300 g (3 cups) cauliflower rice, 400 g (1 can) diced tomatoes with their juices, and 240 ml (1 cup) tomato sauce. Let the mixture simmer for 8 minutes, stirring once, until the cauliflower rice is tender and the sauce has thickened enough to hold a spoon upright.
Step 4: Smooth the top, then scatter the 120 g (1 1/3 cups) shredded mozzarella and 40 g (1/3 cup) grated Parmesan over everything. Bake for 12 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and browning at the edges. You can serve it straight from the skillet with a big spoon.
Greek Ground Turkey and Spinach Orzo Casserole
Feta, olives, and a little fresh dill make this one taste bright rather than heavy. The orzo cooks in the same pan, so the whole thing comes together without boiling a separate pot.

Ingredients (makes 5 servings)
- Ground turkey: 450 g (1 lb)
- Orzo pasta: 200 g (1 cup)
- Yellow onion, chopped, and garlic cloves, minced: 1 medium and 3 cloves
- Frozen spinach, thawed and squeezed dry: 300 g (10 oz)
- Diced tomatoes: 400 g (1 can)
- Low-sodium chicken stock: 480 ml (2 cups)
- Kalamata olives, pitted and halved: 80 g (1/2 cup)
- Feta cheese, crumbled: 150 g (1 cup)
- Fresh dill, chopped: 2 tbsp
- Salt and black pepper: 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
Step 1: Heat your oven to 375F (190C). Warm a large nonstick oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, then cook the 450 g (1 lb) ground turkey with the chopped onion and 3 minced garlic cloves for 7 minutes. You want to break up the meat until no pink remains and the onion softens.
Step 2: Stir in the 200 g (1 cup) orzo, 400 g (1 can) diced tomatoes with their juices, 480 ml (2 cups) chicken stock, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp black pepper. Bring the liquid to a gentle simmer and cook for 8 minutes, stirring once, until the orzo has soaked up most of the liquid and looks glossy.
Step 3: Fold in the 300 g (10 oz) squeezed spinach and 80 g (1/2 cup) halved olives. Turn the heat off, scatter the 150 g (1 cup) crumbled feta over the top, and bake for 15 minutes. You will see the feta soften and the edges of the orzo brown a little.
Step 4: Pull the skillet from the oven and sprinkle the 2 tbsp fresh dill over the top while it is still warm. You can serve this straight from the pan.
Teriyaki Ground Turkey and Broccoli Rice Casserole
The sauce here is sticky, salty, and just sweet enough, and it does not need a bottle. You get crisp-tender broccoli and soft rice in every spoonful, which makes this one a favorite for lunch the next day.

Ingredients (makes 5 servings)
- Ground turkey: 450 g (1 lb)
- Brown rice, uncooked: 200 g (1 cup)
- Broccoli florets, chopped small: 400 g (5 cups)
- Low-sodium soy sauce: 80 ml (1/3 cup)
- Honey: 60 ml (1/4 cup)
- Rice vinegar: 2 tbsp
- Garlic cloves, minced, and fresh ginger, grated: 3 cloves and 1 tbsp
- Low-sodium chicken stock: 480 ml (2 cups)
- Sesame oil: 1 tbsp
- Sesame seeds and sliced green onions, for serving: 1 tbsp each
Instructions
Step 1: Heat your oven to 375F (190C). Whisk the 80 ml (1/3 cup) soy sauce, 60 ml (1/4 cup) honey, 2 tbsp rice vinegar, 3 minced garlic cloves, and 1 tbsp grated ginger in a small bowl until the honey dissolves. You can do this while you start the turkey.
Step 2: Warm the 1 tbsp sesame oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, then cook the 450 g (1 lb) ground turkey for 6 minutes, breaking it up. You want it browned all over, because that gives the sauce a deeper flavor. Pour in the soy mixture and let it bubble for 1 minute.
Step 3: Stir the 200 g (1 cup) brown rice, 480 ml (2 cups) chicken stock, and 400 g (5 cups) chopped broccoli into the skillet. Bring the liquid to a low boil, cover the skillet, and bake for 45 minutes. The rice will soak up the sauce and the broccoli will steam until just tender.
Step 4: Uncover and bake for 10 more minutes, until the top looks glossy and the rice is tender all the way through. You can stir once halfway if the top seems dry. Scatter the 1 tbsp sesame seeds and 1 tbsp sliced green onions over the casserole, then serve hot.
Ground Turkey Zucchini Lasagna Casserole
This one turns lasagna into a low-carb casserole without making you miss the noodles. The zucchini releases just enough liquid to keep the meat sauce loose, and the ricotta layer keeps everything soft.

Ingredients (makes 6 servings)
- Ground turkey: 450 g (1 lb)
- Zucchini, sliced lengthwise into thin planks: 3 medium (about 600 g / 1.3 lb)
- Yellow onion, diced: 1 medium
- Garlic cloves, minced: 3
- Marinara sauce: 700 g (3 cups)
- Ricotta cheese: 240 g (1 cup)
- Large egg: 1
- Shredded mozzarella cheese: 200 g (2 cups)
- Grated Parmesan cheese: 60 g (1/2 cup)
- Italian seasoning: 1 tbsp
- Salt and black pepper: 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
Step 1: Heat your oven to 400F (200C). Lay the 3 sliced zucchini planks on a clean towel, sprinkle with a pinch of salt, and let them sit for 10 minutes while you make the meat sauce. Pat them dry before layering so the casserole is not watery.
Step 2: Cook the 450 g (1 lb) ground turkey and diced onion in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat for 7 minutes, breaking the meat up as you go. Stir in the 3 minced garlic cloves and 1 tbsp Italian seasoning, then pour in the 700 g (3 cups) marinara sauce and simmer for 5 minutes.
Step 3: Mix the 240 g (1 cup) ricotta, 1 large egg, and half of the 60 g (1/2 cup) grated Parmesan in a small bowl. You want the mixture smooth and spreadable, so stir until there are no lumps.
Step 4: Spoon one third of the meat sauce into a 9×13-inch dish, then layer half the zucchini planks and half the ricotta mixture. Repeat the layers as you go, then top with the remaining sauce and scatter the 200 g (2 cups) mozzarella and remaining Parmesan over everything.
Step 5: Bake for 25 minutes, until the cheese is browned and the sauce is bubbling. Rest the casserole for 10 minutes before you cut it into squares, so each slice holds together.
BBQ Ground Turkey Biscuit Casserole
This one is all about contrast: saucy, peppery turkey under soft biscuits with a cheesy top. It is the type of casserole you set in the middle of the table and watch disappear.

Ingredients (makes 6 servings)
- Ground turkey: 450 g (1 lb)
- Red onion, diced: 1 medium
- Garlic cloves, minced: 2
- BBQ sauce: 240 ml (1 cup)
- Frozen corn kernels: 150 g (1 cup)
- Canned black beans, drained and rinsed: 400 g (1 can)
- Refrigerated buttermilk biscuit dough: 8 biscuits (1 can)
- Shredded cheddar cheese: 160 g (1 3/4 cups)
- Smoked paprika: 1 tsp
- Salt and black pepper: 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
Step 1: Heat your oven to 375F (190C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Warm a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, then cook the 450 g (1 lb) ground turkey and diced red onion for 7 minutes, breaking the meat up as you go. You want the turkey browned and the onion soft.
Step 2: Stir in the 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 tsp smoked paprika, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp black pepper, and cook for 30 seconds. Add the 240 ml (1 cup) BBQ sauce, 150 g (1 cup) frozen corn, and 400 g (1 can) drained black beans. Let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes, and you will see it thicken and coat the back of a spoon.
Step 3: Pour the filling into the prepared dish and spread it into an even layer. Scatter the 160 g (1 3/4 cups) shredded cheddar over the top, then arrange the 8 biscuits in two rows so they cover the surface. You may need to flatten them slightly with your palm.
Step 4: Bake for 20 minutes, until the biscuits are golden and cooked through and the filling is bubbling at the edges. Pull the dish out and let it rest for 5 minutes before you serve it with a spatula.
Freezer-Friendly Ground Turkey and Green Chile Cornbread Casserole
This is the one to make on a Sunday and stash in the freezer. The turkey and bean base gets a soft, slightly sweet cornbread topping, and the green chiles give it a gentle warmth that wakes everything up.

Ingredients (makes 8 servings)
- Ground turkey: 450 g (1 lb)
- Yellow onion, diced, and garlic cloves, minced: 1 medium and 2 cloves
- Diced green chiles: 230 g (2 small cans)
- Canned black beans, drained and rinsed, and frozen corn kernels: 400 g (1 can) and 150 g (1 cup)
- Enchilada sauce: 450 g (2 cups)
- Ground cumin: 1 tsp
- Cornbread mix: 230 g (1 package, about 8 oz)
- Milk: 240 ml (1 cup)
- Large egg: 1
- Shredded cheddar cheese: 150 g (1 1/2 cups)
Instructions
Step 1: Heat your oven to 375F (190C). Cook the 450 g (1 lb) ground turkey with the diced onion and 2 minced garlic cloves in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 7 minutes, breaking the meat up as you go. You want no pink left and the onion soft.
Step 2: Stir in the 230 g diced green chiles, 400 g (1 can) black beans, 150 g (1 cup) corn, 1 tsp cumin, and 450 g (2 cups) enchilada sauce. Let the filling simmer for 5 minutes while you scrape the bottom of the pan, then remove it from the heat.
Step 3: Whisk the 230 g cornbread mix, 240 ml (1 cup) milk, and 1 large egg in a bowl until just combined. You should see no dry pockets in the batter.
Step 4: Spoon the turkey filling into a greased 9×13-inch dish or two 8×8-inch dishes, then pour the cornbread batter over the top and spread it to the edges. Scatter the 150 g (1 1/2 cups) shredded cheddar over the batter. If you are making it ahead, stop here, wrap the unbaked dish tightly, and freeze it for up to 2 months.
Step 5: Bake at 375F (190C) for 25 minutes if fresh, or 45 minutes at 350F (175C) from frozen with foil on top for the first 35 minutes, until the cornbread is golden and a toothpick comes out clean. You can serve it hot straight from the dish while the top is still soft.
The biggest thing with ground turkey casseroles is not to rush the browning step. Let the meat sit in the pan long enough to develop a dark sear before you stir, because that is where the deep flavor comes from. If the pan looks dry, let it be, and the turkey will release and brown on its own.
Pick whichever version matches your night, set the timer, and let the oven do the rest. You will have a dish worth setting on the table.
