Ingredients

  • 20 oz bag frozen Trader Joe's chicken meatballs
  • 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp cold water
  • Sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds, for serving

Method

  1. Whisk hoisin, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger in a small bowl. Prepare the cornstarch slurry separately and set both aside.
  2. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat with a thin slick of oil. Add frozen meatballs in a single layer and cook 5 minutes, turning often, until browned on most sides.
  3. Pour the sauce and the cornstarch slurry into the skillet. Stir to coat, lower heat to medium, and simmer 5 to 7 minutes until the sauce thickens and the meatballs reach 165°F internally.
  4. Remove from heat, toss with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, and serve right away over rice.

Notes

If your skillet is on the small side, brown the meatballs in two batches so they don't steam. The glaze will continue to thicken as it cools slightly, so err on the side of a little loose when you pull the pan off the heat.
