- Heat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Pat the chicken dry and rub it all over with the smoked paprika, garlic powder, brown sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Warm the olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken for 4 to 5 minutes per side until deeply golden.
- Remove the skillet from the heat and spoon the BBQ sauce over each breast.
- Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the sauce is sticky.
- Let the chicken rest on a cutting board for 5 minutes, then slice and serve with any pan drippings and extra sauce.
Notes
Resting the chicken is key, it lets the juices settle so every bite stays tender. If you prefer a darker crust, switch to the broiler for the final minute, but watch carefully because the sugar can burn quickly.
