- Whisk the warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl and let sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Add the flour, salt, and olive oil and mix into a soft dough. Cover and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour.
- Punch the dough down, turn it onto a floured surface, and divide into 8 pieces. Roll each into a 6-inch rope and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 12 to 15 minutes, until the bottoms are golden and the tops are lightly browned.
- In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with the garlic and oregano. Brush the mixture over the hot breadsticks as soon as they come out of the oven.
- Serve the breadsticks warm.
Notes
The dough needs about 1 hour to rise; that time is not included in the prep or cook estimates. The recipe makes 8 breadsticks, and a serving is 2. For the softest result, use a flour blend that already contains xanthan gum.
