Ingredients
Method
- Pat the steaks dry. Mix the flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a shallow dish. Dredge each steak in the flour and shake off the excess.
- Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the steaks for 3 minutes per side until browned. Transfer to a plate.
- Add the remaining 2 tablespoons butter to the pan and reduce heat to medium. Sauté the sliced onions for 8–10 minutes, scraping up the browned bits, until deep golden.
- Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of the reserved seasoned flour over the onions, stir for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in the beef broth, then add Worcestershire and Dijon. Bring to a boil, nestle the steaks back in, cover, and simmer over low heat for 25–30 minutes.
- Taste the gravy for salt and pepper. Serve the steaks hot with the onion gravy spooned over the top.
Notes
If you used all the flour for dredging, just pull a tablespoon from the dish before coating the last steak. The simmer time can stretch to 40 minutes if your steaks are thicker than ½ inch; add a splash of water if the gravy tightens too much.
