Ingredients

  • 1 slender baguette, sliced into 12 (1/2-inch thick) rounds
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped fresh dill, plus extra for garnish
  • 2 tbsp capers, drained and roughly chopped
  • 4 oz thinly sliced smoked salmon
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Brush baguette slices with olive oil, arrange on a baking sheet, and toast until golden, about 5 minutes.
  2. Mix cream cheese, lemon juice, lemon zest, dill, capers, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  3. Spread cream cheese on toasts, top with smoked salmon, and garnish with extra dill and capers. Serve immediately.

Notes

The toasts will soften if they sit too long, so assemble just before serving. You can toast the bread and mix the spread up to a day ahead; store them separately and put everything together right before guests arrive.
