Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Whisk melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. Add egg yolk and vanilla, whisk to combine.
  2. Fold in flour, baking soda, and salt until just a few streaks remain. Fold in chocolate chips.
  3. Scoop dough into 6 mounds on a parchment-lined sheet. Press extra chips on top. Chill 10 minutes.
  4. Bake 9–11 minutes until edges are golden. Cool on sheet 5 minutes, then transfer to rack. Serve warm.

Notes

If your kitchen is warm, you can chill the dough up to 30 minutes; just add a minute or two to the bake time. The cookies keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
