Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ medium yellow onion, diced
  • ½ green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated biscuits
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. In a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, cook beef until no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes. Add onion and bell pepper, cook 3 minutes, then stir in garlic for 30 seconds. Drain excess fat.
  2. Reduce heat to medium. Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer 5 minutes until thickened.
  3. Remove from heat. Sprinkle cheese evenly over beef, then arrange biscuits in a single layer on top.
  4. Bake 15-18 minutes until biscuits are deep golden and filling bubbles at the edges. If browning too fast, tent with foil.
  5. Let rest 5 minutes, then scoop onto plates and serve hot.

Notes

If you don’t have an oven-safe skillet, transfer the beef mixture to a greased 9x13-inch dish before adding cheese and biscuits. The rest time after baking helps the sauce set so it clings to the biscuits instead of running all over the plate.
