Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Method

  1. Beat butter and both sugars together until light and fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Mix in eggs one at a time, then vanilla, until smooth.
  3. Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt together. Stir into the wet mixture on low speed just until combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  4. Press dough into a parchment-lined 13-by-18-inch half sheet pan in an even layer.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 to 25 minutes, until edges are golden and center looks set.
  6. Cool in pan 10 minutes, lift out, cut into 24 squares. Serve warm.

Notes

If your oven runs hot, check the cookie a few minutes early to avoid overbrowning the edges. The center should still wiggle a tiny bit when you take it out.
