Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp fine sea salt
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 13x18-inch sheet pan with parchment. Whisk the melted butter and sugar until glossy. Add the eggs one at a time, then the vanilla.
  2. Sprinkle the flour, cocoa, and salt over the wet mixture. Fold just until combined, then fold in the chocolate chips if using.
  3. Spread the batter evenly into the pan and bake 20-22 minutes, until a toothpick has moist crumbs. Cool completely in the pan, lift out, and slice into squares.

Notes

Cool the brownies all the way before cutting clean squares. A serrated knife makes the job neater and keeps the crackly top intact.
