Ingredients

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp rose water
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • dried rose petals, for topping

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Beat butter and sugar until fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes. Add egg, rose water, and vanilla, then beat until smooth.
  3. Gradually mix in dry ingredients just until no white streaks remain.
  4. Scoop tablespoon-sized mounds of dough onto the sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  5. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until edges are just set. Cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack. Sprinkle with rose petals while warm.

Notes

These cookies stay soft for days. For a lemon-rose version, add 1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest with the butter.
