Ingredients

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) red velvet cake mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • White chocolate shavings or cake crumbs for topping (optional)

Method

  1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13 metal pan. Beat cake mix, eggs, oil, and water until smooth. Pour into pan and bake 25–30 minutes.
  2. Cool cake 10–15 minutes. Poke holes all over the warm cake with a wooden spoon handle. Pour sweetened condensed milk over top, spread gently, and let cool completely before chilling.
  3. Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Mix in vanilla, then gradually add powdered sugar. Whip until fluffy.
  4. Spread frosting over the chilled cake, top with white chocolate shavings, slice, and serve.

Notes

Chill the soaked cake for at least 4 hours before frosting, overnight is even better. The extra time lets the condensed milk set and the flavors come together.
