Ingredients
Method
- Toss sliced strawberries with 2 tbsp sugar and 1 tsp lemon juice in a bowl. Set aside.
- Whisk 2 eggs, 1/4 cup milk, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, and a pinch of salt in a shallow dish. Dip each bread slice, pressing briefly on both sides.
- Melt 1 tbsp butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Cook bread in batches, about 3 minutes per side, until deep golden. Add remaining butter between batches.
- Plate the French toast and spoon the macerated strawberries over each serving. Serve immediately.
Notes
For the best custardy centers, use thick slices of day-old brioche. The strawberries release more juice the longer they sit, so let them macerate for at least 10 minutes while you cook the toast. Reheat any leftover slices in a toaster to bring back the crisp edges.
