Ingredients
Method
- Mix the ground beef, cracker crumbs, egg, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until just combined. Shape into 4 oval patties about 1/2 inch thick.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high. Dredge patties lightly in flour, then cook 4 minutes per side until deep golden. Transfer to a plate.
- Reduce heat to medium, add sliced onion to the skillet with a pinch of salt, and cook 5 minutes until soft. Stir in any leftover flour and cook 1 minute. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire, scrape up brown bits, and simmer until slightly thickened, about 3 minutes.
- Return patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, cover loosely, and simmer on medium-low for 10 minutes. Stir in butter if using, then serve hot with gravy spooned on top.
Notes
If you want to prep ahead, shape the patties and refrigerate them uncovered on a plate for up to 8 hours. The surface will dry slightly, which helps the flour stick even better.
