Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1 1/2 cups (255 g) semisweet chocolate chips

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment. In a large bowl, whisk melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. Whisk in egg and vanilla until glossy.
  2. Add flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir with a spatula just until no dry streaks remain, about 30 seconds.
  3. Fold in chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  4. Scoop 2-tablespoon mounds of dough onto the sheets, spaced 2 inches apart.
  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden and centers look slightly underdone. Cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before scooping. The cookies will look soft when removed from the oven but will set as they cool. If you use a dark baking sheet, reduce the baking time by 1 minute.
