Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups (180g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks, 226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups (240g) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup (180g) M&M's
  • 1/2 cup (60g) chopped toasted pecans (optional)
  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling

Method

  1. Cream the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar on medium speed for 2 minutes until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the eggs and vanilla on low speed just until combined, about 30 seconds.
  3. Fold in the rolled oats, chocolate chips, M&M's, and pecans (if using) until no dry streaks remain, about 30 seconds.
  4. Scoop 3-tablespoon mounds onto parchment-lined sheets, press extra M&M's on top, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 11 to 13 minutes.
  5. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes, sprinkle with flaky sea salt, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

Chilling the dough is not required, but if your kitchen is warm or you want extra-thick cookies, pop the scooped dough in the fridge for 15 minutes before baking. The cookies will hold their tall shape even more.
