Ingredients

  • 1 lb spaghetti
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 oz jarred marinara sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (for the cream sauce)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese

Method

  1. Cook spaghetti in salted boiling water for 8 minutes until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef and onion for 5 to 7 minutes until browned. Drain fat, add 3 cloves minced garlic, marinara, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer 10 minutes.
  3. Melt butter in a saucepan, cook 2 cloves minced garlic for 1 minute. Add heavy cream, simmer 3 to 5 minutes until thickened. Off heat, whisk in cream cheese and Parmesan until smooth.
  4. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 9x13 dish. Layer half the spaghetti, half the Alfredo cream, half the remaining meat sauce. Repeat layers and top with mozzarella.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 to 30 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let rest 10 minutes, then slice and serve.

Notes

The Alfredo cream will look a little loose when you pour it on, but it sets up as it bakes and soaks into the pasta. For the cleanest slices, let the casserole rest the full 10 minutes out of the oven.
