Ingredients

  • 1 lb mahi mahi fillets
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 tbsp neutral oil
  • 2 cups finely shredded green cabbage
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 3 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1/4 tsp chipotle chili powder or hot sauce
  • 8 small flour tortillas

Method

  1. Whisk sour cream, mayonnaise, 2 tbsp lime juice, and chipotle chili powder for the crema; set aside. Toss cabbage with remaining lime juice, a pinch of salt, and cilantro for the slaw.
  2. Pat mahi mahi dry. Mix chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and 1/2 tsp salt, then season fillets on both sides.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high. Cook fillets 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden and opaque.
  4. Warm tortillas in a dry skillet for 20 to 30 seconds per side, then wrap in a towel.
  5. Break fish into chunks, assemble tacos with slaw, fish, crema, and extra cilantro.

Notes

The slaw can be made up to an hour ahead and kept in the fridge; just toss it again before serving. If you like a little sweetness, add a pinch of honey to the crema.
