Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef, 80/20
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 8 large butter lettuce leaves
  • Toppings: sliced tomato, red onion, pickles, mayo, mustard

Method

  1. Combine ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Divide into 4 equal portions, shape into 4-inch patties, and press a dimple into the center of each.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side. Add cheese in the last minute, cover to melt.
  4. Lay two lettuce leaves overlapping on a plate, add condiments and a hot patty, top with tomato, onion, and pickles, then fold the lettuce around the burger. Serve immediately.

Notes

For the neatest wrap, choose large, pliable lettuce leaves like butter lettuce. If all you have is iceberg, double up the leaves and wrap gently so they don’t crack. Letting the patties rest a couple of minutes off the heat before wrapping helps keep the juices inside the meat and not on your plate.
