Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup cold whole milk
  • A few drops vanilla extract (optional)

Method

  1. Stir the strawberries and sugar together in a bowl and let them sit for about 10 minutes, until syrupy.
  2. Spoon the strawberries and their syrup into a glass, adding ice if you like.
  3. Pour the milk over the top, stir gently, and serve right away.

Notes

The 10-minute maceration is included in the total time, so plan for that short wait. Use the coldest milk you have—it keeps the layers distinct and the drink refreshing. This recipe doubles easily for two glasses.
