Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp gochujang
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • Steamed rice, for serving

Method

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef, and break it up. Cook for about 5 minutes, letting the edges brown, then spoon off all but 1 tablespoon of fat.
  2. While the beef cooks, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and gochujang until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Reduce heat to medium, pour the sauce over the beef, and stir to coat. Simmer for 3 minutes until the sauce thickens and clings to the meat.
  4. Spoon the beef over steamed rice, top with green onions and sesame seeds, and serve hot.

Notes

This dish comes together fast, so have your rice cooked and ready before you start the beef. Leftovers reheat well and are great tucked into lettuce wraps or over noodles the next day.
