Ingredients
Method
- Melt the ice cream in a shallow bowl until fully liquid, about 5 minutes at room temperature.
- Warm a large skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon of butter.
- Dip each bread slice into the melted ice cream for 5 seconds per side, letting the excess drip off.
- Cook in the buttered skillet for 3 to 4 minutes per side until deep golden and springy in the center, adding more butter as needed for subsequent batches.
- Slide onto plates and serve hot with maple syrup or fresh berries.
Notes
If the bread soaks up every drop of ice cream, do not panic. Simply cook it a minute longer and lower the heat slightly. The outside will still caramelize, and the inside will set into a soft, pudding-like texture. Leftovers reheat beautifully in the toaster.
