Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup hot fudge sauce, plus more for serving

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x5-inch loaf pan with parchment. Whisk melted butter and sugar for 2 minutes, then whisk in eggs and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Add flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, and milk. Fold gently until just combined, about 30 seconds.
  3. Spread batter in pan, drop spoonfuls of hot fudge over the top, and swirl with a knife. Scatter chocolate chips and press in lightly.
  4. Bake 50–55 minutes until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs. Cool in pan 20 minutes, lift out, and slice with a serrated knife. Serve warm.

Notes

Warm the hot fudge sauce slightly so it swirls easily. A high-quality jarred sauce gives the best ribbons. The loaf is even better the next day after the fudge has set.
