Ingredients

  • 12 count package Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 8 oz sliced deli ham
  • 8 oz sliced Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tbsp dried minced onion

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut the connected rolls horizontally in half with a serrated knife. Place the bottom slab in a 9-by-13-inch baking dish. Layer half the ham, all the cheese, and the remaining ham. Top with the roll tops.
  2. In a bowl, whisk the melted butter, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, and dried minced onion. Pour the mixture evenly over the rolls, spreading it to coat every top.
  3. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and the cheese has melted.
  4. Let the dish rest for 5 minutes, then pull the rolls apart and serve warm.

Notes

If the tops brown too quickly, tent the dish with aluminum foil during the last few minutes of baking. The rest time is important—it keeps the butter from running off when you lift the rolls.
