- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan. In a large bowl, whisk together the cake mix, eggs, oil, and water until smooth, about 2 minutes. Pour batter into the pan.
- Sprinkle the chocolate chips and pecans evenly over the batter. Drizzle the caramel sauce in thin ribbons across the entire surface for about 30 seconds; do not stir.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the edges are set and the center jiggles slightly. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle with flaky salt if desired.
- Cool the cake in the pan on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes. Slice into squares and serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
The center should still jiggle when you take it out; it will continue to set as it cools. Wipe your knife between slices for neat squares, and know that the first one may fall apart a bit, that’s the cook’s piece.
