Ingredients
Method
- Brown ground beef and onion in a skillet over medium-high heat until no pink remains, about 6 to 7 minutes. Drain excess fat, then stir in garlic for 30 seconds.
- Whisk sour cream, milk, and flour together. Add beef broth, Worcestershire, sour cream mixture, and frozen vegetables to the skillet. Simmer until thickened, 3 to 4 minutes. Season with smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Spread beef mixture in a 9×13-inch dish, top with a single layer of frozen tater tots, and scatter shredded cheddar over everything.
- Bake uncovered until tots are golden and edges bubble, 25 to 30 minutes. Broil 1 to 2 minutes for an extra-crispy top if desired. Let rest 5 minutes.
- Scoop through all layers and serve hot.
Notes
This casserole is naturally gluten-free as long as your broth and Worcestershire sauce are labeled gluten-free. Most plain tater tots are safe, but always check the package. If you want a richer sauce, stir 4 oz of softened cream cheese into the beef mixture before adding the broth.
