- Mix the oats, flour blend, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces.
- Toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon until evenly coated.
- Spread the apples in a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate or 8x8-inch baking dish, then scatter the crumble topping unevenly on top.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40-45 minutes, until the juices bubble thickly and the top is golden brown. Cool 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
The crumble needs a short rest after baking so the filling thickens properly. If you use apples that are very juicy, the juices may bubble over, so always place the dish on a baking sheet before it goes into the oven.
