- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder in a large bowl.
- Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until pea-sized pieces remain.
- Add the shredded cheddar and buttermilk. Stir just until a shaggy dough forms, taking care not to overmix.
- Drop ¼-cup scoops of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them apart. Bake 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
- Combine the melted butter and minced garlic. Brush over the hot biscuits right after they leave the oven and serve warm.
Notes
If you do not have buttermilk, add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to ¾ cup of milk and let it sit for 5 minutes before using. The biscuits are best the day they are baked, but you can store and reheat them using the tips above.
