Ingredients

  • 8 oz flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 packages instant ramen noodles, seasoning packets discarded
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • Salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Season steak strips with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear steak in a single layer until browned, about 1 minute per side, then transfer to a plate.
  2. Cook ramen noodles according to package directions; drain and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium, add remaining 1 tbsp oil and butter. Once butter melts, add garlic and red pepper flakes, cook 30 seconds. Stir in soy sauce and brown sugar, bubble 30 seconds.
  4. Add noodles to the pan and toss to coat. Return steak with juices, toss 1 minute until hot. Divide into bowls, top with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Notes

The steak will finish cooking slightly when tossed back into the hot pan, so a quick sear in step 1 is all you need. If you prefer a more well-done steak, add an extra 30 seconds per side.
