Ingredients

  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated flaky biscuits (8 count)
  • 1/2 lb thinly sliced deli roast beef
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. In a small saucepan, combine beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 tsp onion powder, and 1/2 tsp garlic powder. Simmer over medium heat for 5 minutes to concentrate, then keep warm.
  2. Separate biscuit dough into 8 rounds. Press each into a 4-inch circle. Place about 1 oz roast beef and 1 slice provolone on one half. Fold the other half over to form a crescent and pinch edges to seal, then crimp with a fork.
  3. Mix melted butter with 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp onion powder, and thyme. Brush over each biscuit and place seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, until golden brown and cheese is bubbly at the seams. Rest on the sheet for 2 minutes.
  5. Serve biscuits warm with the hot au jus in small bowls for dipping.

Notes

If your deli roast beef is very wet, pat it dry so the dough doesn’t get soggy during baking. The biscuits are best right out of the oven, but you can assemble them up to 4 hours ahead: cover the unbrushed, unbaked biscuits on the sheet and refrigerate, then brush with garlic butter just before baking.
