- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment. Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, salt, and garlic powder in a large bowl.
- Cut cold butter cubes into the flour mixture with a pastry cutter or your fingers until the largest pieces are pea-sized.
- Add buttermilk and shredded cheddar; stir with a fork just until a thick, shaggy dough forms.
- Drop 12 mounds of dough (about 1/4 cup each) onto the sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
- Bake 12 to 15 minutes, until deeply golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Mix melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley; brush over hot biscuits immediately. Serve warm.
Notes
The biscuits are most tender right out of the oven, so plan to serve them warm. For an extra pop, set out a small dish of extra garlic butter for dipping.
