Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Green gel food coloring
  • 24 small pretzel sticks
  • Assorted sprinkles
  • Mini star candies or yellow M&Ms, optional

Method

  1. Heat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch pan with parchment. Whisk melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until glossy. Stir in cocoa, then fold in flour and salt until just combined.
  2. Spread batter in pan and bake 20 to 22 minutes, until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs. Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  3. Lift the brownie slab out, cut it in half lengthwise, then slice into triangles. Cut a small slit at the bottom of each triangle.
  4. Beat cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Tint with green food coloring.
  5. Spread or pipe frosting onto each triangle, press a pretzel into the slit, and top with sprinkles and a star candy if using. Serve.

Notes

Cool the brownies all the way and chill the slab briefly before cutting to get the cleanest edges. If the frosting softens while you work, refrigerate the trees for 10 minutes to set the decoration.
