- Preheat oven to 350°F. Cream butter and both sugars until light and fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Beat in egg and vanilla until smooth and glossy, about 1 minute.
- Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir into wet ingredients just until no dry streaks remain; let dough rest 5 minutes.
- Fold in chocolate chips with a spatula.
- Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto lined baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart. Bake 10 to 12 minutes, rotating halfway, until edges are golden and centers look set. Cool on the sheet 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
Notes
The dough can be made ahead and refrigerated up to 48 hours. Let it sit at room temperature for 10 minutes if it’s too firm to scoop straight from the fridge.
