Ingredients
Method
- Whisk eggnog, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a shallow dish until smooth.
- Soak each bread slice in the custard for 20 to 30 seconds per side, letting excess drip off.
- Melt 1/2 tbsp butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook two slices for 3 to 4 minutes per side until deep golden and set. Repeat with remaining butter and bread.
- Serve hot with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh berries.
Notes
If your bread is very fresh, let the slices sit out for 30 minutes or give them a quick toast in a low oven so they absorb the custard without getting mushy. This dish is best right off the skillet, but you can keep finished slices warm on a wire rack in a 200°F oven for up to 30 minutes.
