- Preheat oven to 375°F. Brown beef and onion in a skillet over medium-high heat for 6-8 minutes. Add garlic, cook 30 seconds, then drain fat.
- In a bowl, whisk together the soup, milk, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper until smooth.
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Layer half the potatoes, all the beef mixture, then the remaining potatoes. Pour the sauce over the top and sprinkle with 1½ cups cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes. Uncover, top with the remaining ½ cup cheese, and bake 15-20 minutes more until potatoes are tender and the top is golden. Rest 5 minutes, then scoop onto plates and serve.
Notes
Let the casserole rest for at least 5 minutes before serving; it helps the sauce thicken so the layers hold together. If using a glass dish, reduce the oven temperature to 350°F.
