- Brown the ground beef and onion in a skillet over medium-high heat until no pink remains, about 6 to 8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Transfer to the crockpot and stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
- Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours, or on high for 2 to 3 hours. Stir once or twice if possible.
- Spoon the hot chili over warm hot dogs in toasted buns and add any toppings you like.
Notes
Leftovers taste even better the next day, so this is a great make-ahead for a cookout.
