Ingredients

  • 6 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • Marshmallows, whipped cream, or crushed candy canes for serving

Method

  1. In a 6-quart slow cooker, whisk the cocoa powder, salt, and a splash of the whole milk into a smooth paste. Gradually whisk in the remaining milk, heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and vanilla.
  2. Cover and cook on LOW for 2 hours, stirring once at the 1-hour mark, until steaming and completely smooth with no visible chocolate chips.
  3. Ladle into mugs and top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or desired toppings. Serve immediately and keep the rest on the warm setting.

Notes

If you want an even richer drink, stir in an extra 1/2 cup of chocolate chips about 10 minutes before serving and whisk until melted. Leftovers reheat beautifully on the stovetop.
