Ingredients

  • 1 lb bulk pork sausage
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • 1½ tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 (16.3 oz) can refrigerated buttermilk biscuits, quartered

Method

  1. Brown the sausage in a skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up, until no longer pink, 6 to 8 minutes.
  2. Stir in the flour and cook 1 minute. Slowly add the milk, salt, and pepper, then simmer until the gravy thickens, 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Pour the gravy into the crockpot and arrange the quartered biscuits in an even layer on top, not submerging them.
  4. Cover and cook on LOW 3 to 4 hours or HIGH 1½ to 2 hours, until the biscuits are puffed and cooked through.
  5. Scoop into bowls and serve hot.

Notes

You can make the sausage gravy up to 2 days ahead and refrigerate it. Reheat it on the stove before pouring it into the slow cooker and adding the biscuits. If you’re short on time, use the high setting; the results are just as good.
