Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled, deveined, tails removed
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 2 to 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cups thinly sliced green cabbage
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp sour cream
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • A few dashes hot sauce
  • 8 small corn tortillas

Method

  1. Whisk the mayonnaise, sour cream, lime juice, a pinch of salt, and hot sauce in a medium bowl. Stir in the cabbage until coated.
  2. Combine the flour, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a shallow dish. Pat shrimp dry, then toss in the flour mixture to coat, pressing it on lightly. Shake off excess.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry shrimp in a single layer, working in batches if needed, for 2-3 minutes per side until golden and opaque. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  4. Warm tortillas in a dry skillet or over a flame until pliable and charred. Fill each with slaw, shrimp, and an extra drizzle of sauce. Serve immediately.

Notes

For an even thicker crust, dip the flour-coated shrimp in beaten egg and then back into the flour for a double coat. The tacos will be messier but extra crunchy.
