Ingredients

  • 4 large round soft rolls (about 4 inches wide)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp heavy cream
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped fresh parsley

Method

  1. Mix the softened cream cheese, sugar, and heavy cream until smooth and free of lumps.
  2. Cut each roll into eight petals by slicing downwards but not all the way through, keeping the base attached.
  3. Whisk together the melted butter, minced garlic, condensed milk, honey, egg yolk, and salt until uniform.
  4. Spoon or pipe the cream cheese mixture into the cuts of each roll, then dip each roll into the garlic butter sauce to coat it thoroughly.
  5. Bake at 400°F for 12 to 15 minutes until deeply golden, then sprinkle with parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

The rolls are best fresh from the oven, when the crust is crisp and the center is molten. If you want to get ahead, stir together the filling and sauce a few hours before, then assemble and bake just before serving.
