Ingredients

  • 12 oz fresh or frozen cranberries
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ⅓ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tbsp unsulphured molasses
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp salt, plus more to taste

Method

  1. Place the cranberries, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, molasses, Worcestershire, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cranberries burst and the sauce is thick and glossy.
  2. Remove from heat. For a smooth sauce, blend with an immersion blender or carefully transfer to a stand blender and pulse until silky. Leave it chunky if you prefer more texture.
  3. Taste and adjust salt or vinegar as needed. Spoon into a serving bowl or jar. The sauce will be deep red and thick; serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

The sauce thickens significantly as it cools, so pull it off the heat while it is still a little looser than you think you want. If it becomes too firm in the fridge, stir in a spoonful of warm water to loosen it before serving.
