Ingredients

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna in water, drained
  • ⅓ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped red onion
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh dill
  • Kosher salt and black pepper
  • 8 slices sandwich bread, toasted
  • Lettuce leaves and tomato slices, for layering

Method

  1. Drain the tuna well and place it in a medium bowl. Break it up with a fork.
  2. Add the mayonnaise, celery, red onion, lemon juice, Dijon, and dill. Stir until evenly combined, about 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Toast the bread until golden and crisp, 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. Place a lettuce leaf and a couple of tomato slices on four toast slices. Spread the tuna salad on the remaining four slices, close the sandwiches, and cut in half.

Notes

If you prefer a smoother texture, stir the tuna salad a little more vigorously before spreading. The mustard and lemon can be adjusted to taste start with the amounts listed and add more if you like a punchier flavor.
