- In a small saucepan, whisk together the tomato sauce, vinegar, water, sugar, chili powder, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and cayenne.
- Bring to a gentle bubble over medium heat, then reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes, stirring once halfway through.
- Remove from heat, cool for a few minutes, then transfer to a clean jar. Serve immediately or refrigerate once cooled.
Notes
The sauce thickens as it cools, so it will look a little looser in the pan than it does on the taco. Taste and adjust the salt after simmering, and remember the flavors will mellow overnight in the fridge.
