Ingredients

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 cups cooked cut green beans (canned, drained, or blanched fresh)
  • 1 1/3 cups French fried onions, divided

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, mix the soup, milk, soy sauce, and pepper until smooth. Fold in the green beans and 1 cup of the fried onions until evenly coated.
  2. Spread the mixture into a 1 1/2-quart baking dish. Bake for 25 minutes, until bubbling at the edges and hot through the center.
  3. Remove the dish from the oven and scatter the remaining 1/3 cup of fried onions evenly over the top. Do not pack them down.
  4. Return to the oven and bake 8 to 10 minutes more, until the onions are deep golden and toasty. Let it sit 5 minutes, then scoop and serve hot.

Notes

Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes after baking so the sauce thickens and doesn't run when you spoon it out. If you’re using fresh or frozen green beans, check the table in the post for adjusted bake times.
