Ingredients

  • 2 cans (12.4 oz each) refrigerated cinnamon rolls with icing
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4 oz cream cheese, cut into small cubes (optional)

Method

  1. Open the cinnamon roll cans, set icing aside, and cut each roll into 4 pieces.
  2. Whisk the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Toss the cut rolls and optional cream cheese with the custard, transfer to a greased 9×13-inch dish, rest 10 minutes, then cover and chill at least 4 hours or overnight.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F. Uncover and bake 35-40 minutes until puffed and golden.
  5. Let cool 5 minutes, then drizzle the reserved icing over the top and serve.

Notes

Chilling the casserole overnight gives the best custard texture, but a 4-hour soak still works. If you plan to halve the recipe, use an 8×8-inch dish and start checking for doneness around 25 minutes.
