- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan. Whisk flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium bowl.
- In a large bowl, beat butter with both sugars until fluffy, about 2 minutes.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then vanilla and orange zest. Mix in mashed banana and buttermilk.
- Fold dry ingredients into wet just until combined, then fold in cranberries and walnuts.
- Scrape batter into pan and top with extra cranberries and walnuts. Bake 55 to 65 minutes until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
- Cool in pan 10 minutes, then turn out onto a rack. Cool completely before slicing.
Notes
The bread tastes even better the next day after the flavors meld. For a stronger orange presence, add ½ teaspoon orange extract along with the vanilla.
