- Whisk the pumpkin puree, oil, sugar, eggs, and vanilla in a large bowl until smooth.
- Sprinkle the flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt over the wet mixture and stir just until combined. Add the milk and fold it through.
- Fold in the chocolate chips with a few broad strokes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan, pour in the batter, press a few chips on top, and bake 55 to 65 minutes until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
- Cool in the pan 15 minutes, then turn out onto a rack, slice when barely warm, and serve.
Notes
For the cleanest slices, a serrated knife and a light sawing motion work best. If your loaf domes a lot and the top starts browning too fast, tent it loosely with foil for the last 10 minutes.
