Ingredients
Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment. In a medium bowl, whisk flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar until glossy, then whisk in egg and vanilla until smooth.
- Fold dry ingredients into wet ingredients with a spatula until just combined; dough will be thick.
- Stir in chocolate chips.
- Drop tablespoon-sized balls onto the sheet, space 2 inches apart. Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are set and centers look slightly underdone. Cool on pan 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely.
- Melt white chocolate chips in short microwave bursts. Drizzle over cooled cookies and sprinkle with crushed candy canes. Let set before serving.
Notes
Let the cookies cool completely before drizzling or the white chocolate will melt into a puddle rather than hold its shape. For a deeper chocolate flavor, use Dutch-process cocoa powder. If you skip the candy cane topping, a light dusting of powdered sugar right before serving gives a similar snowy look.
