Ingredients
Method
- Heat oven to 350°F (175°C). Oil a 9x5-inch loaf pan and line with parchment. Whisk sugar, oil, egg, vanilla, and buttermilk in a large bowl until smooth.
- Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into the wet mixture. Stir just until no flour streaks remain.
- Fold in the chocolate chips with a few turns. Scrape batter into the pan, smooth the top, and scatter extra chips on top.
- Bake 50 to 55 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
- Cool in the pan 10 minutes, then transfer to a rack. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
No buttermilk? Stir 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice or white vinegar into 1/2 cup whole milk, let it sit 5 minutes. The loaf keeps moist on the counter for 2 days but stays fresher in the fridge. Wait until the loaf is fully cool before wrapping to avoid excess moisture.
