- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9-inch round cake pan with parchment paper. Beat melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and grainy. Add egg, egg yolk, and vanilla; beat until glossy.
- Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl until evenly mixed.
- Stir dry ingredients into wet ingredients until a thick dough forms, then fold in chocolate chips.
- Press dough evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 22 to 26 minutes, until golden on top with set edges and a slightly underdone center.
- Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 15 minutes, lift out using parchment, slice into wedges, and serve.
Notes
For the chewiest result, pull the cookie cake when the center still jiggles just a bit. It will carry on cooking from the hot pan as it cools, so a tiny bit of underbaking gives you that dense, gooey middle.
